Mourinho wants Cech to stay at Chelsea

Chelsea boss hopes Petr Cech decides to remain at Chelsea despite increasing interest from PSG

Mourinho wants Cech to stay at Chelsea

19 August 2014 - 19:06

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said that he wants veteran shot-stopper Petr Cech to remain with the Stamford Bridge outfit, despite making it clear that Thibaut Courtois will be the Blues’ first choice goalkeeper this season.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Belgian international, who returned to the Premier League club this summer after spending the last three seasons out on loan with Atletico Madrid, was picked up ahead of the Czech footballer for the 3-1 win at Burnley on Monday.

But the Portuguese manager hopes the 32-year-old will choose to continue to be a part of the club in spite of being reduced to a substitute role.

"I hope Petr doesn't want to go and I hope he doesn't have offers to go and, if he does have offers, he refuses to go," he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Cech was brought in to the Fulham based club from the French outfit Rennes by Mourinho during his first spell in charge of Chelsea from 2004-07 and has made 470 appearances for the side across all competitions since his debut back in 2004.

But with Courtois manning the nets this season, Cech has piqued the interest of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid for a potential transfer.
