The Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on signing a top-class striker following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona earlier this summer.

According to Sport Mediaset, the Merseysiders have launched an initial bid of around £17.5m for the former Manchester City star.

The 24-year-old has been held responsible for Italy's group stage exit at the World Cup finals in Brazil, and is now keen on a fresh challenge away from the Serie A.
