Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign 23-year-old Roma forward Mattia Destro before the transfer window slams shut on August 31st. Destro had been told by Roma that he is unavailable for transfer.

  • Despite completing a deal for Diego Costa, it is understood the Blues plan a move for Destro worth around 24 million euros.

Destro has previously spent time at Genoa and Siena and is very highly rated in Italy. The forward has enjoyed some game time playing for Italy's national team and already has 5 caps to his name.

Jose Mourinho is expecting the departure of Fernando Torres this summer and Destro has been mentioned as a potential replacement.

The agent of Destro, Renzo Contratto, moved quickly to confirm the Blues' interest but ruled out Roma's interest in Torres: "It's true that Chelsea are interested in Mattia. But the reports regarding a swap deal have no foundation, it's all speculation."
