The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is well aware of the fact that the club are short at the back, following the departure of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona earlier this summer.

A report from the Mirror suggests that the North London club will jump at the opportunity of securing the services of Atleti centre-back Toby Alderweireld before the conclusion of the transfer window.

In addition to this, the Belgian defender is believed to be keen on a switch away from Vicente Calderon, as he is unlikely to get sufficient gametime at the Spanish Champions.
