Manchester United will have to pay big for defender Daley Blind

Blind will not be sold cheaply, says Ajax

27 August 2014 - 17:28

Dutch club Ajax have warned Manchester United that they will have to shell out a handsome fee if they hope to obtain the services of Netherlands’ left-back Daley Blind.

  • Chelsea asked for Max Dowman during Noni Madueke talks
  • Arsenal ready to pay £40m to sign Chelsea star Noni Madueke

  • The Red Devils, who lost veteran defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand this season, have already missed out on signing Thomas Vermaelen, and will be hoping to add the 24-year-old to their ranks.

After managing just one point in their first two games against Swansea City and Sunderland, Louis van Gaal’s side lost 4-0 against League One side MK Dons last night and were kicked out of the Capital One Cup, thereby making it clear of the Old Trafford outfit’s need for some reinforcements at the back.

But the Amsterdammers’ director of football Marc Overmars insists they will not sell Blind for cheap and claims that the English club will have to pay a hefty amount.

“We believe that we currently have a strong team and want Daley to stay for another year,” he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“Only if the absolute top price is paid is a transfer negotiable.

“Daley's management know how we feel at the moment.

“Next year we will have a much more lenient policy, we are willing to talk with Daley and we will settle for a reasonable price”, Overmars added.
