The Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has been keen on bolstering his defensive department, and has already signed the likes of Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo this summer.

Earlier today, Van Gaal had confirmed the transfer agreement for Ajax defender Daley Blind, and a report from TuttoMercato now claims that the club are keen on adding another centre-back in Carvalho before the transfer deadline.

Carvalho's signing could provide sufficient back-up to the likes of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling for the season.
