Defoe staying at Spurs

10 December 2007 - 18:46

Jermain Defoe has insisted that he wishes to stay at Tottenham for the forseeable future and rejected claims that he wished to join North London rivals Arsenal in January. The striker scored the winning goal in the Premiership at the weekend for Tottenham.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • "I think if you look at any player in the world if you're playing, then you would sit down and think I would want to commit myself to the club," Defoe told Sky Sports News.

"A lot of people have said things about contracts and stuff, but if I am totally honest, if I did not want to be at this club, then I wouldn't be here - simple as that.

"I want to stay at the club. Like I keep saying the fans have been fantastic towards me.

"I love the fans and I love the club. I feel at home here and I said that when I signed.

    "I definitely want to stay."
