Liverpool and Arsenal to battle for Khedira next summer

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are confident that a deal can be wrapped up to sign German defensive midfielder Sami Khedira on a free transfer next summer. Khedira could leave Real Madrid on a bosman free transfer.

Khedira has long been linked with a move away from Spain and is now almost certain to quit Real Madrid once his contract expires in July next season.

Arsenal representatives had been locked in talks with the German's agents last summer and nearly wrapped up a deal, but were unable to persuade Real Madrid to sell.

Now Khedira will be available on a free transfer and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in the German as a replacement for Steven Gerrard.
