Mikel Arteta to extend Arsenal contract

Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta is to follow the lead of Olivier Giroud and sign a brand new contract at the Emirates. The former Everton man is on the verge of wrapping up a fresh deal for the next two years.

Arteta has found himself a first team regular this season, at the back of the Gunners' midfield and operating in a defensive role.

Arteta had hinted that he would like to sign a fresh contract and has yet to have agreed on a deal.

However, it is understood Arsene Wenger has come to an agreement with the player and Arteta's new contract will be announced shortly.
