The Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is understood to be keen on signing a top-class centre-back during the winter transfer window, as he unsure with the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, and Jonny Evans in the heart of the defence.

Les Parisiens had earlier dismissed claims linking defender Marquinhos with an exit from the club by insisting that United would require a staggering £112m to secure the player's services this month.

However, The Sun claims that the Mancunian giants will make a last ditch bid of around £35m for the 20-year-old defender.

Marquinhos has struggled for game-time at Les Parisiens this season having made just seven league appearances till now.
