It is widely reported that the Blues had made the improved bid for the England international following their 3-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City in the Premier League over the weekend.

However, The Express cites that the Toffees will maintain their stance, and reject the offer from the Premier League champions.

It is added that club owner Roman Abramovich has given manager Jose Mourinho the green light to bring in at least three recruits before the closure of the transfer window.
