Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis is considering a move back to his home nation having fallen out-of-favour under Manuel Pellegrini.

The Argentina international is currently City's fourth choice centre-back behind the likes of Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi.

According to Manchester Evening News, the former Bayern star will seek a fresh challenge away from the Etihad during the New Year.

It is added that Demichelis may favour a return to his boyhood club River Plate, should an opportunity come by.

Demichelis joined the Citizens from Atletico Madrid in 2013.
