Chicharito has since then been in tip-top form for the Bundesliga outfit, and has already amassed an impressive tally of 10 goals in 14 outings this season.
According to The People, Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen on signing a proven goal scorer following the recent struggles of Diego Costa.
It is added that Chicharito is one among the top targets for the Premier League holders in the New Year.
The Blues have had a disastrous start to their league defence, and currently find themselves in 16th place with just 11 points.
