Southampton have reportedly rebuffed an offer from Liverpool for Shane Long.
The 28-year-old had been recently linked with a move to Anfield with manager Jurgen Klopp keen on strengthening his striking options for the season.
Reports now reveal that the Saints have turned down an offer of around £8m from Liverpool for the Republic of Ireland international.
It is added that the South Coast side consider Long as an important first-team player despite landing the services of Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers over the weekend.
Liverpool have signed the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana. Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert from the Saints in recent years.
