Manchester City will reportedly step up their efforts to strengthen their backline by lodging bids for defensive duo Aymeric Laporte and John Stones from Athletic Bilbao and Everton respectively.

  • Chido Obi to leave Man Utd on loan
  • Chelsea star suffers hamstring injury on international duty

  • The Citizens have had a tough time at the back this season with captain Vincent Kompany struggling with injuries for much of the campaign.

According to The Sun, the Mancunian giants are expected to have a overhaul of their defensive setup this summer with the likes of Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi finding it hard to ply their trade in the Premier League.

It is added that the Citizens will look to lure Everton star Stones and Bilbao ace Laporte in a combined £80m deal.

City are currently fourth in the league standings, 10 points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
