Arsenal considering Higuaín bid

Arsenal set to offer Giroud plus cash for Higuaín

Arsenal considering Higuaín bid

In their search for a top class striker, Arsenal are set to turn their attention to Napoli's Gonzalo Higuaín, as they prepare a player plus money offer with Olivier Giroud going the other way, according to reports in Italy.

  • Transfer guru, Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Gunners are set to make a move for last season's Serie A top scorer.

Higuaín has a £72 million release clause in his current contract with Napoli, and the Italian club are unlikely to consider any offer below that value.

But Arsenal will hope to kill two birds with one stone by using Giroud as a makeweight to reduce the amount of cash they will need to hand over, while also providing Napoli with a ready made replacement for Higuaín.

Arsenal are in the hunt for a new central striker this summer, but their number one target, Leicester City's Jamie Vardy, decided against a move to the Emirates after the north London club triggered his £20 million release clause.

It now seems that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to Higuaín, who broke the all time record for most goals scored in a Serie A campaign last season by netting a remarkable 36 goals.

Giroud was the club's top scorer last season with 24 goals, but fans have grown frustrated at the French striker's inconsistency, as he suffered a 12 game dry patch last season.
