Arsenal will have to pay a fee in the region of £80m if they are to prise away Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli this summer. The Argentine was in stunning form for his club last season.
It had been recently claimed that the Gunners could offer Olivier Giroud as makeweight in a £42m deal to sign the former Real Madrid star.
However, a source close to Napoli has insisted that the club are likely to keep hold of Higuain unless a side matches his £80m buy-out clause.
"There are no direct offers," he was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"Only by meeting the release clause of €94,376,000 will the player leave Napoli. Otherwise Higuain will stay for the remaining two years of his deal."
The 28-year-old broke the Serie A goal-scoring record last term as he netted 36 times in a single league camapaign.
