Man Utd enter race to sign Bonucci

Manchester United took the opportunity to enquire about the availability for Leonardo Bonucci during negotiations with Juventus for the sale of Paul Pogba, according to reports.

  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • ESPN FC last night reported that, during the Pogba negotiations, United raised the topic of Bonucci, as the Red Devils are thought to be keen to further bolster their defensive options following the capture of Eric Bailly from Villarreal last month.

The 29-year-old centre-back is regarded as arguably the best player in his position in the world, and has been the subject of bids from both Manchester City and Chelsea.

And now it seems that United have thrown their hat in the ring, but Juventus remain reluctant to sell.

With a world record deal for Pogba said to be close to being agreed, Juventus will be under no financial pressure to sell their star defender and the Italian Champions have already rebuffed offers of €45 million from City and Chelsea, with the Citizens reportedly lining up a second offer of around €60 million Euros.

Bonucci drew widespread acclaim for his stellar performances with the Italian national team at the UEFA European Championship in France last summer, scoring the equalising goal from the penalty spot against Germany in the quarter final.

United are also reportedly set to do battle with City over West Ham United teenager Reece Oxford, while the rival clubs are thought to be considering moves for Everton's John Stones.
