Manchester City could end their pursuit for John Stones after Everton decided to play hardball on his transfer price. The Toffees are reluctant to offload their centre-back for anything less than £50m this summer.
The England international has been strongly tipped to join the Citizens after manager Pep Guardiola expressed interest in his signature.
The Citizens have followed to table an improved £40m offer for the 22-year-old, which has been swiftly rebuffed by the Toffees.
According to The Mirror, the Mancunian giants are unlikely to come up with a fresh bid for Stones and it is up to the Toffees to decide the fate of their player.
Ronald Koeman's side are for now holding onto a £50m price tag, but this could come down as the transfer window approaches to a close.
Stones has been a mainstay at the Merseyside outfit since his switch from Barnsley in 2013. He has also earned 10 caps with his national team.
