Sunderland sign Papy Djilobodji

06 August 2016 - 09:12

Sunderland have sealed the signing of Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji on a four-year contract. The 27-year-old becomes David Moyes' first signing as Black Cats boss.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The centre-back failed to attain a first-team place at Stamford Bridge following his move from Nantes last summer.

He spent the second half of last season with Werder Bremen, netting twice in 14 Bundesliga games, including a late winner to help them avoid relegation on the final day of the campaign.

Moyes had been on the search for defensive recruitments since his arrival two weeks ago, and it is now official that they have recruited Djilobodji for an £8m fee.

Djilobodji, who is a full international with Senegal, appeared in a solitary game for Chelsea last term, coming as a late substitute in the 4-1 win over Walsall in the League Cup.
