Koulibaly happy to play for Napoli

Koulibaly : I turned down Chelsea

03 September 2016 - 06:10

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has admitted that he snubbed the opportunity of joining Chelsea during the recently concluded transfer window.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The Senegal international was the subject of multiple bids from the Blues this summer with manager Antonio Conte at one stage being prepared to break the club's transfer record.

However, things did not go the way of the Blues, and they eventually shifted their focus to former centre-half David Luiz, who joined on a £34m deal from Paris Saint-Germain.

Koulibaly has now come out to hint that it was his own decision to turn down an approach from the West London giants and he is content to prolong his career at Naples.

"I decided to stay because I feel good with this team", he told Il Mattino.

The 25-year-old has racked over 75 appearances for Napoli since arriving from Belgian side Genk in 2014. He has also earned six caps for Senegal with his debut coming against Namibia last year.
