Nemanja Matic had considered a possible exit from Stamford Bridge in the recently concluded transfer window. The Serbian international has since resolved his future at Chelsea, and he is looking forward to a successful campaign.
The midfielder was linked with a possible move to Juventus over the summer after they shipped Paul Pogba to Manchester United on a world-record deal.
However, after holding negotiations with the Blues' hierarchy, he opted to stay put at the West London giants in a bid to fight for the title under new coach Antonio Conte.
"I spoke with the club and we both decided that it was best for the club and for me to stay." he told Sky Sports.
I'm very happy because I'm now here with this team and this club. I will give my best and all my quality to help the team to challenge for the title. I want to improve my game and I'm sure Conte is the right coach to do that."
The 28-year-old followed to lavish praise on summer recruit N'Golo Kante, who he reckons to be better than former Chelsea great Claude Makelele.
