Chelsea will reignite their pursuit for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli this winter with Antonio Conte keen on bolstering his fragile backline.

  • The Blues have made an average start to the season, and are currently placed eighth in the league standings.

Quotidiano Sportivo claims that the Blues will renew their interest for the Italian defender having failed with a £30m offer for his signature last month.

Milan were believed to be holding out for a £40m sum for the centre-half with former club AS Roma owed 30-percent of any future fee.

It is now reported that the Blues will match Milan's valuation for the player in the New Year with the need for a central defender being the key priority for Conte.

Chelsea did manage to land the services of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso over the summer, but Conte is not clearly convinced they could stay at Stamford Bridge for the long-term.
