Chelsea receive boost in defender pursuit

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte could be set for a reunion with Leonardo Bonucci at the end of the current campaign. Juventus are said to plan a major squad shake-up during the summer transfer window.

  • Bonucci had been linked with both the Blues and Manchester City last summer, but he eventually opted to remain in Turin citing his son's poor health condition.

The Italy international has started in 18 league games for the Old Lady this campaign, but his position still remains unsafe after the emergence of young duo Mattia Caldara and Daniele Rugani.

The pair have been identified as potential mainstays in the heart of the defence, and this could urge Juventus to cash in on Bonucci sooner rather than later.

Conte had been keen on signing his compatriot at the start of the campaign, and the Blues could revive interest with a £42m deal on the cards this summer.

Bonucci worked alongside the manager at Juventus between 2011-14 before two were reunited with Italy for the next couple of years.
