Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his side made an attempt to sign Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe last summer.

  • Chelsea handed boost in signing Alejandro Garnacho?
  • Arsenal likely to unveil second signing this weekend

  • The France Under-19 international has hit great heights this season, and his form since February has attracted interest from a host of European clubs.

Mbappe has impressed with 13 goals and five assists for the Principality outfit this term, and this has helped Monaco gain a three-point lead over Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1.

In a report on Metro, Wenger has admitted that he had tried to sign Mbappe last summer only to see Monaco rejected their approach.

Monaco have been well-versed to selling their academy graduates over the years, and it appears that they may be tempted to sell Mbappe this summer, provided a club matches their £52m valuation.

Earlier last month, Wenger had heaped praised on the French youngster deeming him to have the potential of matching former Arsenal great Thierry Henry.
