Arsenal boss confirms transfer approach for French youngster

Arsenal failed with Mbappe approach last summer

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his side made an attempt to sign Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe last summer.

The France Under-19 international has hit great heights this season, and his form since February has attracted interest from a host of European clubs.

Mbappe has impressed with 13 goals and five assists for the Principality outfit this term, and this has helped Monaco gain a three-point lead over Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1.

In a report on Metro, Wenger has admitted that he had tried to sign Mbappe last summer only to see Monaco rejected their approach.

Monaco have been well-versed to selling their academy graduates over the years, and it appears that they may be tempted to sell Mbappe this summer, provided a club matches their £52m valuation.

Earlier last month, Wenger had heaped praised on the French youngster deeming him to have the potential of matching former Arsenal great Thierry Henry.
