Chelsea agree deal for French midfielder, five-year contract finalized

27 March 2017 - 05:15

Premier League leaders Chelsea have reportedly beaten Manchester United to the signing of AS Monaco anchorman Tiemoue Bakayoko.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The French under-21 international has enjoying a top campaign with the Principality outfit, who currently hold a three-point lead at the top of Ligue 1.

Bakayoko has been closely watched by both United and Chelsea in recent weeks, but according to Tuttomercatoweb, it is the Blues who have managed to land the highly-rated midfielder.

Antonio Conte's side has initially failed with a £32m approach for the enforcer, but they have since come up with an improved £35m which has been accepted.

Bakayoko is understood to have finalized a five-year contract with the west London giants, and he will be due to link up with his new employers when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

The Frenchman was initially a surprise exclusion from Didier Deschamps' France squad before he earned his maiden call-up owing to a hamstring injury to compatriot Paul Pogba, who is contracted to Manchester United.

N'Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic have been the first-choice pairing at the heart of the midfield this season, and the arrival of Bakayoko could restrict the playing time of the latter at the club.
