According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Brighton and Hove Albion are weighing up a shock transfer move for Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure, who will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. Toure has been one of the Premier League's best players in recent seasons.
The Daily Mirror claims that Toure is a target for the newly promoted Championship duo Newcastle United and Brighton, who will be using their promotion winnings to secure a move for Toure, who earns a massive 220,000 euros a week. It is understood that Toure will accept half of that in order to stay in England.
The 34 year old midfielder has already rejected an offer from China and it has been suggested that Toure only wishes to play in an English speaking country; with a move to the United States with an MLS team a preferred alternative. Toure has played in Manchester since 2010 when he joined from FC Barcelona in a mega money deal and won two Premier League titles.
Brighton's chairman has promised a hefty transfer kitty to sign the players needed to guarantee Premier League survival next year; with Yaya Toure set to be the first to sign on the dotted line if manager Chris Hughton has his way.
Brighton slumped to a final day second place despite The Championship odds being heavily in their favour. Newcastle United pipped them to the title thanks to a last minute goal in the south coast club's game against Aston Villa by talented youngster Jack Grealish; that game eventually finished 1-1.
Brighton and Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom will be investing the finances into the transfer kitty to ensure that such slip ups do not happen again next season in the Premier League.
