Man Utd step up chase for unsettled Spurs midfielder

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is prepared to push for a deal for midfielder Eric Dier amid the uncertainty over his future at Tottenham Hotspur.

  • The England international has been a regular in the Spurs lineup in recent months, and he is still upset playing out of position under Mauricio Pochettino.

    Dier has often been utilised as a centre-back in a back three or back four, but he sees his future as a midfielder in the centre of the park.

    According to The Express, Mourinho will look to take advantage of the player's uncertainty in north London in order to lure him to Old Trafford in a potential £40m deal.

    United have relied on Michael Carrick to perform the shielding duties on most occasions this term, but they are now on the search for a youthful replacement with the 35-year-old approaching the final years of his career.

    Carrick, who is due to earn a testimonial next month, is likely to earn a year's extension to his contract in the next few days.
