Verratti wants to stay at PSG

Verratti squashes Real Madrid and Barcelona transfer rumours

30 May 2017 - 07:18

PSG's Marco Verratti has gone on record to squash rumours linking him with a summer move to Barcelona and Real Madrid.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The 24-year-old Italian midfielder had been a top transfer priority for both La Liga giants over the past few seasons. With PSG's repeated failures in the Champions League and losing the Ligue 1 crown to Monaco, it was thought that Verratti finally wanted a move away from the Paris club.

However, Verratti has quelled rumours linking him away from the club, expressing his happiness and admiration for the club.

The midfielder was quoted by the Express as saying: "I am very happy to be a part of this project and I have always said that winning with PSG is different from winning with all the other teams because I have been here for five years and I would really like to win something very important here at Paris."

"I still have four years of contract and I do not think to leave."

When asked about manager Unai Emery, who has come under fire this season for PSG's exit from the Champions League after incredibly losing 6-1 to Barcelona at the Nou Camp, Verratti said he has "improved" under the Spaniard and wants to continue his progress.

This will be a blow for Barcelona and Real Madrid as they are looking to replace aging midfielders Andres Iniesta and Luka Modric respectively.
