Leicester City could block Riyad Mahrez exit

Former English champions Leicester City are unlikely to part ways with Riyad Mahrez this summer unless they receive a substantial offer for his services.

  • The Algeria international released a surprise statement on Tuesday afternoon where he insisted that it is 'time to move on' following a tough season at the King Power Stadium.

Mahrez had attracted strong interest from Arsenal last summer but he instead inked a fresh four-year deal with the Foxes with the promise that he will stay committed for another 12 months.

According to Sky Sports News, the Foxes are unlikely to let go of their player on the cheap and are set to play hardball in negotiations with his suitors.

AS Monaco have already backed off a proposed deal for Mahrez as they are not capable of paying wages of around £100,000-a-week.

And this leaves Arsenal as potential front-runners for the attacker, who is eager to ply his trade for a bigger club ahead of next season.

Leicester City are likely to hold out for a fee of around £35m for Mahrez, who will be hoping to revive his title-winning form next term.
