Manchester City sign Ederson Moraes

After a season of goalkeeping dramas, Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Benfica stopper Ederson Moraes for a fee of £35 million. Benfica announced that an agreement had been reached last Thursday, but with some of the fee going to third parties, it was not made official until the Premier League announced that they were happy with the deal until today.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • Ederson has many years left ahead of him, being just twenty-three years of age. He had a successful season last time out with Benfica, winning a league and cup double.

Speaking about the move to Manchester, Ederson said: "I like everything about Manchester City. With Pep Guardiola, City are growing more and more. He's putting in place a young team for the future. Those were important factors in my decision. I have always had the dream to play in English football and now I'm going to make it true."

Claudio Bravo was signed as Manchester City's first-choice goalkeeper last summer, but he struggled regularly in his first Premier League season. Ederson Moraes is expected to come in as City's new first choice 'keeper, meaning that Bravo may have to come to terms with being seen as a backup.

Willy Caballero was not offered a new contract at the end of last season, meaning that he was shown the exit door at the Etihad. Joe Hart, who has returned from a loan spell with Torino, may now be moved on as well.
