Former Arsenal striker-turned-pundit Charlie Nicholas believes Arsene Wenger should open his chequebooks to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in the summer.
The France international became the youngest player to achieve a hat-trick of Champions League titles following triumphs in 2014, 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Varane earned himself a regular spot alongside Sergio Ramos during the previous campaign, but there is still a sense that he would move after having lifted every thing within reach with the Bernabeu outfit.
Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on reunion with Varane at Manchester United this summer, but Nicholas feels Arsene should have a look at the player as he aims to strengthen his overall squad for the new season.
"Arsene needs three signings in my opinion. He needs another big-name centre-back, someone like Raphael Varane. He has spent big money so I’m not critical that he isn’t prepared to do that," he is quoted by Metro.
Rob Holding has adjusted really well to the three-at-the-back setup at the Emirates, but there is still the need for more experience with skipper Laurent Koscielny occasionally having injury concerns.
