Blues could beat United to Morata

Chelsea could steal the race for Alvaro Morata

Premier League holders Chelsea could be set to hijack Manchester United's move for Alvaro Morata as they plan a club-record &pound70m bid for his signature.

  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • Antonio Conte's side are on the lookout for a couple of top-class strikers as they look to offer a strong challenge in both the domestic and European competitions next season.

According to The Mirror, Blues owner Roman Abramovich will sanction a &pound70m offer for Morata as they look to beat rivals United to the player's signature.

Morata has already agreedĀ on personal terms with the Europa League holders, but United are still reluctant to come close to Real's &pound78m valuation.

United have had a bid of around &pound52.4m turned down by the Los Blancos' hierarchy, and their continuous persistence over a lower sum could see Chelsea seal the deal.

Conte has already fired a warning towards Abramovich for the lack of transfer activity, and the Blues are expected to act in the coming days in order to keep hold of the Italian head coach.
