Swansea City enter race for Kelechi Iheanacho

21 June 2017 - 05:47

Swansea City will reportedly compete with West Ham United in the pursuit to sign out-of-favour Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho in the summer.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • The Nigeria international has been the subject of interest from several foreign clubs, but he is keen to remain in the English top flight in order to apply for a UK passport down the line.

According to The Mirror, the Hammers have been reluctant to accept a buy-back option on the striker's contract, and this has brought the Swans into the focus.

Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has previously praised Iheanacho for his efforts, and it is suggested that the Spaniard is unwilling to lose his young striker without a clause to retain his services.

Iheanacho is likely to cost a fee of around £20m whichever English club he joins this summer, and this will provide him the perfect platform to progress following his restricted playing time last season.

The Nigerian footballer struggled for gametime in the second half of last season as Pep stuck with the likes of Gabriel and Sergio Aguero for the centre-forward duties.
