Tottenham to offer new contract to England defender

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to offer a new five-year contract to England right-back Kieran Trippier, despite the fact that he still has three years remaining on his current deal.

  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Since joining the club in 2015, Trippier has been acting as a backup option to Kyle Walker. When given his opportunities, Trippier has performed well and finished last season ahead of Walker in the pecking order.

Kyle Walker has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer and The Mirror reports that Mauricio Pochettino sees Trippier as the player to replace him permanently.

Like Walker, Trippier is very much in contention to be selected in the England squad for next year's FIFA World Cup and has been praised recently by the national team manager, Gareth Southgate.

Despite still having three years left on his contract, Mauricio Pochettino is keen to tie his players to the club on a long-term basis and will offer Trippier a new five-year deal that is also likely to include a considerable wage increase.
