Arsenal legend insists Michy Batshuayi has one big problem with his game

Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Ian Wright feels Michy Batshuayi does not pressure defenders enough following Chelsea's shock 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

  • The Blues were looking to close the gap on second-placed who had drawn 0-0 against Liverpool earlier in the day, but Antonio Conte's were surprisingly overawed by a motivated Palace side.

Batshuayi managed just one start during his maiden Premier League campaign last term, but he still had a better goal per game ratio than Golden boot winner Harry Kane.

With Alvaro Morata injured, Batshuayi earned just his second start of the current league season, but he was largely disappointing prior to his substitution for Pedro in the 57th minute.

Speaking of the BBC Match of the Day programme, Wright revealed there is a major difference between Morata and Batshuayi with the latter lacking the intensity with his movement in the opposition box.

He said: "The problem I’ve got with him is he’s not making defenders work hard enough to get some space for him to get a chance in the box.

“He needs to make that movement in order to get into space. His movement doesn’t have enough intensity about it."

Chelsea face off against AS Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and Conte is hopeful that Morata fully recovers from his hamstring strain.
