Newcastle are preparing a shock move for PSG's out of favour forward Hatem Ben Arfa in the January transfer window. A transfer to Tyneside for Ben Arfa would set up a shock return to the Premier League and Newcastle for the Frenchman.
The 30-year-old has been told that he is free to leave the Ligue 1 leaders in search of regular first-team football. The former Hull City man has been monitored by numerous clubs but it is Newcastle who are believed to be in pole position to secure a transfer.
Ben Arfa has been warming the bench so far this campaign and has grown increasingly frustrated at the Parc des Princes.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is a huge fan of the winger and will offer a reported 8 million euros to bring Ben Arfa back to the club. Ben Arfa spent four years at Newcastle United, between 2010 and 2014 and is thought of fondly by most Toon Army fans.Â
Newcastle are flying high in the Premier League this campaign and are confident adding a player of Ben Arfa's quality will continue their ascendance.
