Reds face battle to keep Can beyond next summer

Liverpool resigned to losing Emre Can next summer

Liverpool are reportedly fearful that Emre Can could leave Anfield on a free when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Germany international is currently a transfer target for Italian champions Juventus.

  • Can, 23, had been strongly linked with a move to Juventus during the summer transfer window, but the Reds refused to discuss a suitable sum for his departure.

According to The Daily Mirror, the Reds could be prepared to give up on the midfield enforcer having failed to come to a negotiation over his wage demands.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man is said to demand a weekly wage of around £160,000-a-week which is way off the £70,000 package the Reds are willing to offer.

Juventus will be free to discuss a suitable pre-contract with Can in the New Year, but the Reds nevertheless have a back-up option in hand, having agreed to recruit RB Leipzig's Naby Keita next summer.

Liverpool will look to close down on the Champions League places when they take on West Ham United in Saturday's late kickoff at the London Stadium.
