Ryan Giggs issues warning to Manchester United after derby win

Giggs urges United to strengthen further this summer

Ryan Giggs issues warning to Manchester United after derby win

08 April 2018 - 19:00

Manchester United favourite Ryan Giggs has suggested that the Red Devils must improve the squad further during this summer's transfer window, if they are to have any chance of competing for the Premier League crown next term.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • Jose Mourinho's side came from 2-0 down in the Manchester derby on Saturday to clinch a surprise 3-2 win, but they are still expected to finish behind their cross-town rivals for the campaign.

Speaking on Star Sports, Giggs admitted that United have to improve ahead of the 2018/19 season, if they are to match the Citizens, who are on course to achieve a record points tally in the Premier League.

He said: "They have to [improve]. They have to next year, they have to do that. Otherwise, City will win the league again, because of the quality that they've got, the transfer window, they're going to improve, they're going to get better players.  Every season, whoever wins the Premier League, the teams beneath them have to improve. So Manchester United have to next year."

Barring a disaster, City are expected to celebrate their third Premier League title, and United have all to do next season in order to close the gap between the clubs.

The likes of Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez lived up to their billing in the derby triumph, but they may need to maintain their performances over the course of a season in order to end United's league drought.
