Oxlade-Chamberlain suffers long-term injury

25 April 2018 - 17:09

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered a knee ligament injury which is expected to see him miss the rest of the season as well as the World Cup finals in Russia with England.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The 24-year-old was forced off the field after just 18 minutes of the Reds' 5-2 win over AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg, and it has now been confirmed that he has suffered a long-term injury.

According to Liverpool's official website, the medical team have yet to place a timescale on his recovery but he is expected to go on a rehabilitation period to overcome his knee issue ahead of next season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has evolved into a regular for the Three Lions over the past 12 months and his absence is likely to be of concern with Adam Lallana sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere has also struggled with persistent niggles which have restricted his playing time at different stages and Gareth Southgate has some huge decisions to make ahead of the World Cup.
