Mikel Arteta on cusp of becoming Arsenal manager?

20 May 2018 - 08:09

Mikel Arteta is reportedly on the verge of being announced as Arsenal's next manager with only his backroom staff left to be sorted. Gunners legend Thierry Henry has been approached to become the Spaniard's assistant for the 2018/19 season and beyond.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • According to The Independent, Arteta, who is currently an assistant at Manchester City, has already agreed a deal in principle to return to the Emirates Stadium and he is expected to succeed Arsene Wenger as the Gunners next boss.

However, the deal is being put on hold until Arteta can finalise his backroom staff and club legend Henry is among those who could be offering a coaching role with the north London giants.

Henry is currently an assistant to Roberto Martinez with Belgium but he could be convinced to re-join the Gunners in a coaching capacity once the World Cup concludes this summer.

Meanwhile, Arteta is likely to handed a pre-sales transfer budget of just £50m and he may have to offload some of the fringe players in order to recoup funds for a spending spree.
