Manchester United could reportedly be willing to make a club-record bid in order to secure the signature of Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer.
The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on Bale over the past couple of seasons and the Welshman has recently appeared to hint that he could part ways with the European champions.
As such, United are said to be planning a formal approach for the former Southampton graduate with AS claiming that they could bid as high as £122m to acquire his signature.
Bale was in-and-out of the starting lineup under Zinedine Zidane during the previous campaign and he was nevertheless effective scoring 21 goals across all competitions.
United head coach Jose Mourinho has previously admitted that he would fight against his European rivals in order to bring Bale to Old Trafford but the player's wages could yet prove a hindrance.
Bale, who has four years left on his Los Blancos deal, would ideally want to become the club's highest-paid player ahead of Alexis Sanchez, should the deal materialise.
