Arsenal looking into deal for Mexican defender?

Layun on Arsenal radar

Arsenal looking into deal for Mexican defender?

22 June 2018 - 10:06

Arsenal are reportedly planning an approach for Porto defender Miguel Layun during this summer's transfer window.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game

  • The 29-year-old spent the second half of the previous campaign on loan at Sevilla and the Andalusian outfit have the option of securing a permanent deal for his services.

Despite this, the Gunners are waiting in the wings to pounce on Sevilla's failure to land the Mexican with manager Unai Emery keen on bolstering the defensive side of the team.

Layun is generally capable of playing on either side of the central defenders but the Mexican has shown his versatility of playing further up the field in an attacking role as displayed in the 1-0 win over Germany.

Arsenal have so far announced the arrivals of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno at the Emirates Stadium but they are seemingly close to announcing a couple of more deals.

Borussia Dortmund's Sokratis has already agreed to join the club next month whilst Lucas Torreira could follow the same route with Sampdoria president confirming a transfer agreement for the midfielder.
