Manchester United have reportedly informed Chelsea of their desire to match the asking price of wantaway winger Willian this summer.
The Brazil international has been one of the Blues' top performers over a five-year spell but he is now weighing up a fresh challenge away from the club.
Spanish champions Barcelona have been reckoned as favourites to acquire his services in recent weeks but so far, they have not match the Blues' £62m asking price.
As such, United appear set to hijack the deal with Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion with the Brazilian, whom he brought to Stamford Bridge in the first place.
Meanwhile, United's move for Willian could further be aided by Barcelona's pursuit of Malcom, who had initially been expected to join Roma from Bordeaux.
United are presently in the United States for the pre-season tour where they have already played out stalemates against Club America and San Jose Earthquakes.
