Monreal hints at new Arsenal contract

Nacho Monreal drops update over his Arsenal future

12 September 2018 - 16:27

Spain international Nacho Monreal has stressed that he is content with his stay at Arsenal and is already in contact regarding a probable contract extension with the club.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Monreal has been with the Gunners for nearly six seasons and during this period, he has managed to become the undisputed choice on the left side of the defence.

Despite this, his future has been called into question with his contract expiring next summer but he has now assured that he has no worries about his situation at the club.

"At the moment we are talking with the club. I've always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal. I came six years ago," he is quoted as saying by Metro.

"I have a good relationship with them. We are in contact in any moment so don't worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing."

Monreal has been constantly linked with a return to Spain with Athletic Bilbao in recent transfer windows and of late, Barcelona are deemed to have joined the chase as they seek a back-up option for Jordi Alba.

Regardless of this, Monreal continues to command a regular role under new boss Unai Emery and he is expected to start against Newcastle United during this weekend's Premier League meeting.
