Chelsea to reward Eden Hazard with the captaincy?

03 November 2018 - 20:30

Chelsea could reportedly reward Eden Hazard with the captaincy next season in a desperate attempt to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2020.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Hazard's future has been regularly discussed in the media amid the alleged interest from Real Madrid but so far, the European champions have not made any approach for the attacker.

Amidst this, talks are already under between the Blues and the player's representative regarding a contract extension and according to The Telegraph, they could be prepared to offer the Belgian with the captaincy as an incentive.

Hazard's presently has a £300,000-a-week deal on the table but reports suggest that he may wait until the end of the season as he continues to assess the situation with the European champions.

Real Madrid recently axed Julen Lopetegui from the head coach role after a three-match winless run and the club are yet to announce a potential successor to the former Spain manager.

Meanwhile, Cesar Azpilicueta has been regularly leading the side in the Premier League this season with club-captain Gary Cahill spending most of his time on the bench so far.
