Inter ready to step up Martial interest

07 November 2018 - 04:49

Inter Milan want Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as his Old Trafford contract standoff continues, The Mirror reports.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Martial is out of contract in the summer, with United having the option to increase his deal by 12 months, and although his current club are keen to keep him, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio "is a long-term admirer."

Reports in September said Inter could try to broker a loan deal for France international Martial that would see Ivan Perisic go the other way. Martial had indicated he would be reluctant to sign new terms after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho, but he has now scored five goals in five Premier League games.

The French International has hit a purple patch of form in recent games and has garnered praise from media and the coach himself. However, this praise and recognition might not be enough to keep him at the club as Martial seeks pastures new. Martial is entering the prime of his career and regular playing time should be on top of his list.

The recent dip in form and injury concerns for Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez has allowed Martial to strengthen his position in the starting eleven, yet his rift with Jose Mourinho will do enough to persuade a career elsewhere.

Inter have begun their season in impressive fashion yet at times they look a side missing dexterity. The extra packets of trickery and pace could be provided by Anthony Martial. Spalletti’s system depends heavily on its wing play and darting crosses into the centre for the head of Mauro Icardi.

If this move is to materialize, it would be a huge gain for Inter who are attempting to challenge Juve domestically and re-establish themselves as European giants. As for Martial, a move to San Siro will be beneficial in terms of personal development and will allow him to grow fully into his capabilities.
