Liverpool receive major injury blow ahead of Bayern Munich game

18 February 2019 - 16:29

Liverpool are set to be without Dejan Lovren for the forthcoming Champions League round of 16 encounter against Bayern Munich.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Merseyside outfit are already without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez with suspension and injury respectively and according to The Mirror, they could be without another central defender in their ranks.

Earlier last week, manager Jurgen Klopp acknowledged that Lovren remains a major injury doubt for the Bayern game and it is now claimed that he won't make the game after failing to report to training to date.

The Croatian has been sidelined since picking up a hamstring injury in the FA Cup third round tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month and this has now left the Reds with Joel Matip as the only fit centre-back.

Alongside Matip, one of Fabinho or James Milner could feature at the heart of the defence, though the former appears the preferred choice after assuming the same role earlier in the campaign.
