Manchester United have reportedly dropped their interest in signing Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United after being quoted with a £50m asking price.
Longstaff has been closely monitored by United scouts since his Premier League debut in December 2018 and a recent report from The Telegraph claimed that they are on the verge of landing the 21-year-old.
However, a fresh story from The Mirror suggests that the club have now bowed out of the race for the young Englishman after the Magpies demanded a fee of around £50m.
United were initially hoping to pursue the midfielder for just £20m and it appears that they may have to look elsewhere for new signings with the Magpies unlikely to negotiate on their price tag.
Newcastle are currently without a head coach following the departure of Rafael Benitez, but they are expected to cover the vacancy with Steve Bruce tipped to join from Sheffield Wednesday in the next 24 hours.
